Ice Cream On a Hot Day!

What's there to do at school on a nearly 90-degree day?
Well, that's easy!
Make ice cream...in a bag!!

Last week in reading we discussed nonfiction text and compared it with fiction text. We identified various features such as a table of contents, a title page, captions, headings, bold words, a glossary, and an index.

We also talked about following instructions and step-by-step directions. Each small group made their own bag of ice cream using this recipe, which we doubled for each group. It made the perfect amount for each student to have a cool treat!

Here are some pictures of the shaking. It took less than 10 minutes to freeze!

After this, each student drew an illustration of one part of the ice cream-making process. We then placed the pictures in order on the chalkboard. The following day we created a how-to paragraph together.

Special thanks to ALL who donated items for our fun treat!!
